Doors

Doors make a first impression. Hull Historical door designs are inspired by the Historic precedent based on a library of historic trade catalogs from the 1870’s to the 1940’s. Doors are mortise and tenoned, pegged and built with historic Stave core construction to guarantee a long lasting, warp free construction. Hull has learned lessons from the past to build great doors today. For exterior doors, Hull uses only long lasting generational wood, that have been tested by Forest Product Labs to last the longest. Mortise and tenon joinery is often pegged to create a mechanical joint that doesn’t require glue. Veneers on stave core doors are at least ¼” thick as prescribed by historic precedent. Profiles and panel details all are based on historic precedent. We use quarter sawn white oak; mahogany; walnut, Teak and vertical-grain Douglas fir. Historic doors are built with historic woods like Long Leaf Yellow Pine, Tidewater Red Cypress, Antique and salvaged woods, all proven to last for generations. Door hardware is carefully researched and selected to be beautiful, appropriate and functional.
